COMMUNICATION n. 11 ( next )

ESTHETICS: SATURDAY JUNE 15TH A COMPARISON BETWEEN THE ITALIAN, GERMAN AND BRAZILIAN SCHOOLS OF THOUGHT. A NEW APP WHERE YOU CAN SIGN UP IN A CLICK!
Italian, German and Brazilian: three schools of thought with seven top speakers will add to the full day of presentations held in the main lecture hall on Saturday June 15th at the Congress Center of Chia Laguna Resort during the final day of the 10th International Congress of the Italian Dental Association. Representing the German school and in Sardegna for the first time will be Irene Sailer lecturer at the Robert Schattner Center at the University of Pennsylvania and director of the Division of Prosthodontics and Biomaterials at the University of Geneva in Switzerland along with Daniel Edelhoff associate professor at the Ludwig-Maximilian university in Munich, Germany. Defending Brazil will be Paulo Kano and Milko Villaroel while the group of Francesco Mangani, Roberto Spreafico, Camillo D’Arcangelo and Vincenzo Musella will wave the flag for the Italy. Chairing the session will be Antonio Cerutti, associate professor of odontostomotology at the University of Brescia, Italy and Giancarlo Pongione, specialist in conservative dentistry and a top personality in the Italian Society of Endodontics, from Naples, Italy. Europe kick things off at 8:30am with Irene Sailer(Switzerland) keynote lecture who will speak on the increasing role of digital impression and cad cam technology in restorative dentistry. Amongst the factors making this technology more and more attractive are the multitude of new restorative materials. At 9:15am the podium passes off to Daniel Edelhoff (Germany) who will discuss Pre-treatment Options in Complex Rehabilitations showing how digital technology with its access to an abundance of information offers greater predictability. The bi-maxillary splint provided by cad cam technology allows for visualization of the final outcome even in reverse. At 10am Roberto Spreafico and Vincenzo Musella take the stand for Italy’s first round. Spreafico, founder of the Italian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, the Digital Dental Academy and the International Academy for Digital Dental Medicine will speak on his 30 years of direct and indirect restorations and chairside technology allowing for one visit restorations thanks to the introduction of composite resins coupled with adhesive technology. Musella, author of the text, Modern Esthetic Dentistry and instructor at the University of Modena, Italy, will discuss how disappointing esthetic results in patient expectations are not the result of clinical or technical problems but are the result of scarse patient communication. An esthetic preview is the only way to check function and the final esthetic result and communicate it to the patient in advance as well as allowing the clinician to be as minimally invasive as possible. At 11:15 the Brazilians take the stand. Mirko Villaroel, director of the CWB Dental Training in Curitiba, Brazil will take a look at ceramics in tooth and implant rehabilitation. Designed to satisfy specific clinical situations, ceramic systems are case selective depending on factors such as mechanical properties needed in the area being restored, esthetics, tooth preparation, type of cementation and laboratory technique. At 11:45am Paulo Kano from the Sao Leopoldo Mandic University, Sao Paulo, Brazil will come to the podium. Author of the book Challenging Nature, developer of the SKYN concept with Livio Yoshinaga and the Cllones in Digital Dentistry that discusses protocols allowing for the predictable natural recreation of dental morphology. Kano will discuss a digital workflow taking into account patient prototype, photos, videos, treatment planning, flapless surgery, tooth preparation, scanning, color, cementation and occlusal regulation. Italy’s second round will represent the gran finale. Camillo D’Arcangelo, author, together with Lorenzo Vannini, of the book Esthetics, Function, Posture and lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Chieti, will discuss the Rehabilitaion of Patients with Temporomandibular disorders using the EFP approach and additive prosthetics. The EFP approach exhalts esthetic results, maintains occlusal equilibrium and in the parafunctional patient improves occlusion. In other words one can improve ones smile, occlusion and posture all in one procedure! Thanks to improved adhesive techniques it’s no longer necessary to sacrifice dental structure. Francesco Mangani, president-elect of the Italian Academy of Conservative Dentistry and instructor in the Conservative-Restorative program at the University of Rome at Tor Vergata, will discuss how to preserve endodontically treated teeth placed at risk by using incorrect restorative approaches. The advent and recent improvement of modern adhesive techniques has allowed the clinician, supported by literature, to use a more conservative approach even in post endodontic restorations in the lateral posterior sectors. New! There’s a brand new Congress App! It’s the Chia Congress App in English and Italian developed by Tecnocongress that can be downloaded on both iPhone or Android where one can not only register but in a click have key information on the upcoming congress as well as a look back at the 2017 edition. Simple as is the style of the Italian Dental Association AIO, leader in dental education in Italy! Remember that it’s always possible to register for the congress at congressoaio.it.
